Got Riley's P up and running quickly today with the help of Dave and Geoff. The piston looked like shit as did the cylinder. Can't believe it ran at all. It was a great father and son project, which really means a lot to me.

I can add my 2 cents worth
I could take some measurements on the cylinder and see what your options are. In the meanwhile you have an operating engine.
I've got some of the tools to measure size, just bring it by. Dave is real good at it too. Might take both opinions 😉
got a first over piston. It could use some help measuring to see what size I would need. it might be cheaper to find a iused set like what Dave loaned us.
crazy
Sip has up to 4th oversized, only $57. There's better but they are more. I could add something to one of my orders of your want.
Yeah but I bet it needs more than a first over. Going from 66.5 to 66.7 is only .1 more on each side. It would take some measuring to figure out the right size to order. There's some meat in the 200 cylinder.
Given that Riley doesn't have much money these days, do you think the cylinder could be bored out, or is it too damaged?
Does the oil injector work? I'm assuming it doesn't since it's not motul color. Maybe that history plays into the piston
I'm a little baffled why it's so bad. It felt like corduroy. If there was a previous broken ring it would be more damage in one spot I bet. The damage is pretty extensive for just a loose piston but maybe as it got looser it was able to do more damage more quickly? Clearly it was time. Nick of time perhaps.
What would cause that kind of damage? Lack of oil? I know he's been running it with Motul. But he said it's made noise like that from the beginning. I remember hearing a noise before but the fan s shroud and the fender were rattling making noise and must have masked it.
