We tried to meet on the patio at Jackalope this past Wednesday, but it was full. Probably full because there was a big concert in Eugene that night. Anyway, as we move into Fall and wet, cold weather, we will continue to meet as always. I understand some of us are less comfortable with indoors due to covid, even as we see a steady drop in cases. An alternative we discovered Wednesday is the patio at Lauralwood Pub. It was all ours. covered with service. They do not have their fire pit going yet, but it sounds like they are bringing it back. It could be a nice bridge spot until the covid numbers are down and we all feel OK meeting indoors.
For this week, let's try the Jackalope again. if it's full on a non-concert night, we'll move to Lauralwood. I'd like to settle on a weekly routine as I am not interested in planning something new every week, especially when only a handful of people are attending. This time of year, many people are less engaged so a routine is important.

these are near the lowest numbers we've seen
There's been thefts recently? Am I oblivious to something that happened?
I agree with us settling on something. I'm fine with Jackalope ange like them but wondering how other people are feeling about inside/outside stuff.
I would really like to settle into a place maybe until June (after students leave) before we consider summer tour stuff. Give us a couple months of consistency.
Scooter night has been a huge positive through the pandemic for many of us, let's keep that positive flow going.
wed at my place this week (3/30) is good to go. and we can talk about options for the summer tour of outside seating places, yes with good visible parking (too many thefts in the last months)

No spike since mask mandate ended. I say we do this week at Chad's (if it's still a go), then settle on a meetup spot for a while. I'm OK with Jackalope. We can sit up near the dart boards (less foot traffic there), but of course we'll sit outside when weather allows. I'm OK with moving somewhere else. I'm fine with Wednesday rides, but others need plan these. I'm happy to advise when needed. We can set up a schedule to allow multiple members plan a wednesday, with a default backup.
As far as other meetup places, for those who haven't planned something, it needs good, visible parking. The event needs to be posted on this forum, the events calendar and on facebook. Otherwise, let's settle on a spot. It's rally season and occasional weekend rides are good too.

Another week will tell us of any spikes sans mask mandate.
I think we could be cautious for the next couple weeks but it's looking pretty safe out

back near pre-omicron numbers.
Let's aim for maybe daylight savings time? March is coming
Looks like we finally have a positive trend with Covid cases. Since Omicron blew the case count out significantly and people have the ability to test themselves at home, that number is less relevant and reliable than the hospital numbers. We've managed to drop from over 100 for a couple weeks to 65 today. If all goes well, we can plan to head back to the Jackalope (or where ever) sometime in March, if we're near 20 daily hospital cases by then. As the weather becomes warmer and more daylight, we can resume rides, though I liked our little night ride last week.
I expect we will see over 1000 cases/day before it plateaus. Miami hit >500 per 100,000 before it plateaued there and they are as vaccinated as we are (but much higher pop density and less adherent to masks).
My prediction is that we will keep having increasing levels of COVID-19 and that it will far surpass anything we have seen before. However, it will likely mostly be Omicron, which does not attack the lungs the way the other variants have. If you are vaccinated and boosted you should be relatively safe, but I am also not exactly hopping to catch it and think we need to limit exposures to indoor public environments until it passes. How long will this last? Keep an eye on NYC and Miami, both have whopping levels of cases and the length it takes to pass through those places out East should provide us with a vague idea.. Delta took between 2 - 3 to burn through most places, this may be similar or perhaps quicker since it is so contagious.
for those keeping score...
